I have lost the Icon for my C Drive, I can still see the drive and
everything works ok but the yellow folder icon will not show. I have 3
drives, C, D & E, D & E are the same as they always have been but C is now
just a basic standard icon.

Any ideas how to change back to the usual XP Drive Icon?

Thanks

Keith

Thanks, I tried this, but when I then open 'My Computer' I see the correct
icon for a second or two then it returns to the 'Unknown' icon.

Is there a 'autoplay.inf' in the root of C: ? If so, remove it.

Hi Keith,

My drives don't show as yellow folders, but as drives. Open Explorer,
click Tools, Folder Options, File Types tab, and under File Types, look
for "Drive" (should be toward the top of the list). Click on it, and
click the Advanced button. Click the Change Icon button. You should
have the location c:\windows\system32\shell32.dll (if not, put it in
"Look for icons in this file:"). The drive icon should be the 3rd one.
Select it and click OK and out of the other dialog boxes.

1. Open My Computer - click Tools - Folder Options - select the option "Show
Hidden Files and Folder".
2. Apply the changes.
3. Right-click on your C Drive and notice the top most entry. If it is
rather than Open that means on the Root of your C Drive there is a file
called "AUTORUN.INF". Select the file and delete it.
4. May require you to restart your PC for changes to take effect.

Hope this help, let us know!

You might want to check the hard drive connections. Try pushing the
connectors on properly or pushing the molex connectors in from the rear
where the wires enter the connectors from the power supply
unit.....maybe...it is odd the proper name is there for a moment then
changes to unknown device whatever thing.
