Can anyone tell me what it is, how it got there, and if it can safely be

Any advice appreciated.

Google is your friend. Searching for: spyware c-dilla
turned up this page. You decide if C-Dilla is spyware.

What software have you installed recently that phones home? Besides
XP? [Gosh, maybe XP uses C-Dilla... I don't have it.]

Thought that was with one of the tax programs several years ago (Intuit).

Yes, TurboTax used it last year. If C-Dilla is uninstalled, the tax
program won't allow you to print tax forms.

My understanding is that C-Dilla is used by several different software
apps, so if Chrisssssssss uninstalls/removes it, that or those
programs may not function as expected.

I think this is the time for you to make an informed decision, based
on the material at hand.

You've been shown that C-Dilla is a registration, anti-piracy scheme
used by software manufacturer, most notably Intuit/Turbotax, and not
spyware in the true sense. If you don't need those softwares, go ahead
and remove C-Dilla, but be aware that you may not be able to
re-install last year's tax program should you need it.

At this point, I don't know what else any of us could tell you. We
can't decide if you will ever need your 2003 tax software again.

Actually if it is an Intuit product call Intuit and they can answer that
question. They had/have a tool to remove it. I did but it was too long ago
to remember what I did.

PS - I went to Tax Act last year and just got my 2004 issue yesterday.

Thanks again.
What really confuses me is that I have never ever installed or used any tax
software!
Very odd.
