I have a windows XP system with 2 cd (one cd read/write & one dvd reader) recently both have refused to open when pushing the external button or using the eject command on my computer. The cd is attempting to open but will not.

It seems strange that they have both decided to fail at the same time - but if you can hear it trying to open it seems that it is getting power OK. Have you tried opening the tray manually to see if it's just jammed? Usually there's a manual eject hole which you can use by pushing in a paperclip.

Thank you Ian. I removed the false covers & found the hole. After a little effort they opened. I now believe that the problem is the need of a good cleaning removing built up dust inside the computer.
