I am new to XP and having one drive partitioned into 2
and I am hoping someone can direct to a place that
explains how this works. My hard drive is 160GB - C
drive shows a capacity of approx. 14GB and D drive 129GB.
I just realized that all additional software, etc. has
been placed on my C drive leaving me about 5GB free space
while D drive is setting there with 129GB free space. I
contacted Sony (the manufacturer of my PC) and was
advised that new applications should be installed on D
drive. My question is - how do you install on D drive?
Everytime I place a new piece of software on my system it
automatically ends up on C drive. I never see a choice
where to install first C or D. Any help or direction to a
help site would be greatly appreciated. Also - can you
move these installed programs from one drive to another
or do you uninstall and load again on the different
partition? Thank you for any help - it is greatly
appreciated.

Hi Fuzzy, I had exactly those problems with space on my Vaio - a good computer ruined by idiotic Sony thoughtlessness. I never have a problem loading the considerable additional programs I use onto D: I always get a choice just before starting to copy onto any disc. Please look really carefully to make sure the choice is really not offered. With 5 Gb left, you are still in the safe zone. However, I found that the Vaio was loaded with pretty useless rubbish in a partition called-I think- "*./ IDE" Here'e what I did. I made the Sony Recovery discs - ESSENTIAL. transferred all data to my E: drive (a new one I had installed) Formatted C: completely and used the Recovery set to fire up. Sony told me I had to remove the new drive AND the additional RAM I had installed. I didn't and its working great now. So I now have a 120Gb C: drive and a 250Gb D: Hope that helps - but you MUST make the Recovery Set!
