I'm having a strange problem. I recently had a virus on my laptop. I was able
to remove it using SDFix, AVG, Spybot, Avast and Ad-Aware.

The only problem is, I can't see my drives anymore? When I click 'My
Computer', I can only see my CD-Rom drive and the control panel (+ msn shared
docs, ...). I can't see my C & D drives anymore (it's actually 1 drive but
partitioned in 2).

If I typ "C:\" or "D:\" in my navigationbar, I am able to access it (and all
of a sudden it appears on my explorer ?

This is a rather annoying problem. I've already tried a lot of solutions but
I'm still not able to fix this problem. Does anyone know a solution? My XP is
Media Center Edition.


PS: Sorry if my english isn't 100% correct, it's a foreign language to me :-)

Look in the root of the drives, from a command prompt, for a file named
autorun or autoplay, and delete it

I can't seem to find any of these files on neither my C nor D drive.

Hello,

I used to have the same problem with My Computer not showing drives at all.

You don't say which version of Windows you are on. Windows XP Pro has
Gpedit.msc which is the Group Policy Editor. If you're running XP Home
this program isn't included but you can download it from the following link:

http://files.filefront.com/GPEdit+Fi.../fileinfo.html

This program has settings in it to hide or unhide drives. You may need
to set them to hidden, then immediately reset them to unhidden, then
reboot to see the changes.

If you need to download and install Gpedit.msc the zip file which it
comes in has the installation instructions for it in a file called "Read
This.txt" in the GPEdit folder in the zip file.

To start Group Policy Editor click Start, Run and type in Gpedit.msc and
click the OK button.
