I got my problem of yesterday fixed - thanks to those who replied. I am
left with a slightly different, "no-real-problem" but it's an annoyance.
I wonder if there is a quick fix for it:

Now when my wife boots her computer, boot stops in a DOS page that says
"Select the operating system you wish to start". There are two choices:
Windows XP or Windows XP (?) Pressing "Enter" continues boot
immediately, or it continues itself in 30 seconds, so as I said, it's
not a big problem, just an annoyance. But is there a way to eliminate
that "DOS stop"?

Tony

It is called Boot Menu. First make sure about the working entry in Boot menu
either it is the first one or second. Log on the working Windows entry and
then:

1. Right-click on My Computer and choose Properties
2. Click the Advanced tab
3. Click Settings button under Startup and Recovery
4. The entry under "Default operating system:" will be the current working
windows you are running. Windows automatically display the current logged in
Windows entry as selected and if you press the drop down menu you can see the
another one.
5. Now, here you can choose one of the following:
a. Let the default entry selected and uncheck the option "Time to
display the list of operating systems:" or
b. Click the Edit button and this will open the Boot.ini file. Here you
can remove the unused entry.

If you are not fimilar with B choice then I will recommend you to choose
choice A.
6. Apply the changes and restart your PC to check effects.

Hope this help, let us know!
