why is it when you type "BVE" onto a cell it changes it to BE?

It' an autocorrect option

Tools|Autocorrect options
enter BVE and delete the entry

It's an autocorrect spelling thing. Excel thinks you misspelled BE.

To remove that rule from the library...
Goto the menu Tools>AutoCorrect Options
Type BVE in the Replace box and BE will appeat in the With box
Click Delete
OK

Deleting an autocorrect rule will apply to *all* of the MS applications that
use an autocorrect feature. They all use the same library.
