I am using XP Professional with Microsoft Outlook 2003. Until I tried to
sync my i-Pod with my contacts and calendars everything worked fine. Now I
get an error message when I try to find an email address by clicking the "to"
button on a message I want to send. The message reads "The contacts folder
associated with this address list could not be opened. It may have been
moved or deleted or you do not have permissions." The contacts are still in
the contacts folder. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

There are many posts here that tell you how to reset your Outlook Address
Book Service. The question is, why do you need to? You need to get some
answers from whoever supports your synch software. This is a bad bug.
I will repost the instructions for resetting your Outlook Address Book to
use to see if you can fix it:
You may actually have to remove the Outlook Address Book completely from
your Profile, close Outlook, and then re-add it before you can get it to
work. Make sure the Contact folder is still enabled as an email address
book. Right click the Contacts folder, choose Properties then Outlook
Address Book. Is the box to enable as email address book checked?
If this is grayed out...Go to Tools | Email Accounts, choose View or change
existing directories or address book. Is the Outlook Address Book present?
If it isn't listed, add it and close and restart Outlook. If it is listed,
then remove it and close then restart Outlook and repeat these steps to add
it.

Russ - thanks for your post. Can you make the instruction more explicit? (I
am a total novice).

When you say "Right click the Contacts folder" DO YOU MEAN IN OUTLOOK OR
SOMEWHERE ELSE. RIGHT CLICKING ON CONTACTS WITHIN OUTLOOK GIVES ME TWO
OPTIONS ONLY: 'NAVIGATION PANE OPTIONS' AND 'OPEN IN NEW WINDOW'. HOW DO I
GET TO PROPERTIES? So I can't get to "choose Properties then Outlook Address
Book."

I mean in Outlook. You are not R clicking on the Contacts Folder. You are R
clicking on a button in the Navigation Pane. Use that button to take you to
the Contacts View where you can then click on the Folder itself to get to
the dialogs I posted.
