busy busy busy connection

one of my server has a very busy network connection, it acts as our
gateway to the internet and it has two network adapter (LAN, WAN),
there are occasions that the WAN adapter is so busy, looking into the
Networking view under task manager I could see that there are a lot of
bytes going out of this computer which I don't know why.
