Is there away to share BCM database among two or more users? I have some users that have the BCM running on their computers and they would like to have the same contact database or at least share each others business contact database. Is there a way to do that? Can this be used by Exchange 2003 clients?

Yes with version BCM v2.

You need to share your database using the menu item in the BCM menu and
then specify the users that should have access.

Those users can then create a new Outlook profile and specify the
database you shared. Or switch to the shared db using an existing
profile.

Thanks for the info. I was using and older version of BCM all this time. I
just tried the BCM v2 that I downloaded from microsoft.com, and it worked
with Exchange clients. I see the menu where I can share. I will figure out
the rest.

Thanks again.

Forgive my naivety. Is there away to share info with remote users?

E.g. we have several users who work in the field and the only way we share
data today is to export and import data. This is a very large file!

I don’t have an exchange server today as we are all working on separate
machines, but we can implement exchange or SBS or what ever is needed if this
will work. Apologies for my lack of technical awareness! Hope you can help?

Ian,
Do the users have connectivity to a central location (office) where the BCM
database can be shared or at least a connectivity to an exchange server if
you implement one?

I hope I understand your question correctly, but I’ll let you know what I can
as follows:

We do not currently have a specific server set up so that they can connect
to it when out of the office. I have purchased a machine for the office big
enough to do the job and installed BCM there and it’s up and running fine. We
are in a serviced office and we can get whatever connectivity we need. We use
POP email, synchronised with Outlook now (not ideal but works ok).

The users are in the office say once every 2 weeks and all have laptops, all
well spec’d with BCM working. When working remotely they all have access to
a dial up connection, a 3G data card or a broadband connection.

What I would like is either:

a) users to synchronise with the d/b then work offline to update records
then to re-synch with the d/b centrally (either remotely or when next in the
office), or;

b) Users to be able to use BCM by connecting to the office central machine.

Option A is my preferred route but I’ll tale what I can get at this stage!

I hope I have made sense and that you can advise me. I guess I’m confused
about the differences between SBS and Exchange etc and what I really need.

In short, I run the business and want everyone to have access to the data
wherever they are.

By the way, I would like to be able to separate the accounts in BCM so that
specific users only access their own accounts but that’s a limitation in the
software and probably outside of this conversation

Thanks in advance.

Ian

I guess what I am saying here is that we can get whatever we need. My
question is what do we need?

Thanks for any help.
