Hello. I am frustrated. I have saved a 45 minute long slideshow set to
music but I can not get it to burn to a VCD so that I can play it on my DVD
player. I have tried Aimone, Cucosoft, and VCD easy trial versions so that I
can make sure I can convert and then burn but in all cases, my DVD player
starts to work, for about 2 seconds, then hangs up. HELP??!! How can I get
this to CD??? What programs are out there that will work. I dont mind
paying for them but ONLY if they work. Seems like everything i have tried is
not working.

Sounds like you are successfully creating the VCD....
maybe there's a problem with your DVD player.

Does the documentation for the DVD player say it
will play Video CDs?

Hi Robbo.....a couple of suggestions for you.

Two programs I use for various things are Movie Factory and Avs Video
Converter.

Before you buy anything you can try out the trial versions to see if they
work for you. If not you can just un-install them. But Avs Converter is
especially useful for converting videos to different formats and also various
audio tools and ripping.

You can find Movie Factory at www.ulead.com On the left side click
on Ulead Movie Factory 4 ...... on the next screen where it says disc
creator click on the 'free trial' button. The next screen shows you the
various download info and that the trial is for 30 days....it probably puts a
watermark or something on the vid until you buy it but i'm not sure. Read
the installation instructions.

AVS Video Converter can be found at www.avsmedia.com ....there is a trial
version that can be downloaded also. This is shareware (trial) and will put
a watermark on the vid until you would purchase and register it. But you
can use this too to see if you can make a playable vcd or svcd. Click on
the DVD button at the top, and then use the 'dropdown' menu to find the
format you wish to use. When you get to the site click on AVS Converter and
on the next click on Download and read the instructions and other useful info
on it. This program cost $29.95 if you end up wanting to buy it after you
try it.

Thanks for the encouragement and advice. I will check the recommended
products out. On a sidenote. I have saved the movies to WMV files. Is
there a better format that is more workable to convert?

Hey, just to let you know-I did a 36 min. slideshow and tried to make a VCD
also and it would not work. I researched it and found the MM2 uses HighMat
technology and that only DVD players with that logo will play it and they are
very limited. I think there is a Sony one and a Panasonic one but that's all.

Yes that is true, but Robbo is planning on using third party software to
accomplish his task. He won't be burning it directly from within Movie
Maker. He just has to make sure his dvd player can play video cd's. Using
WMV format will work fine. After you save your video on your computer, check
it out on your media player before you burn it to a cd; to see if it is
acceptable to you. When making a DVD it is best to use DV-AVI format for
video, and High Quality-NTSC for pics, but Robbo you are making a VCD here.
If you try out other software, I'd suggest you look at the AVS Video
Converter first cuz I think you'll like it. Its one of my favorite and most
used programs. Good luck!

OK....AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I downloaded the AVS smart converter and did the conversion. Placed the
CD-r in my home dvd player and AGAIN, it hangs up after about 3 seconds of
play. I get the start of the music and the first slide but then it hangs.

I thought it might be my dvd player so I went next door to my neighbors and
her DVD player did the same thing.

Here is what I am doing...saving the movie (about 10 mins at a time) to
"high quality video (large)" then converting that through AVS and thats it.
Help?

Hi Robbo
Here is what I recommend you try:
Import all those saved WMV files back into Movie Maker.
Drag them all one by one to the timeline.
Save your movie as a DV-AVI.
Since you are now working with video files instead of still images the
DV-AVI should save just fine.
Now I recommend, sorry dickmr but I just don't like AVS Converter for making
DVD's/VCD's, downloading the free trial of Ulead Movie Factory (link on my
website in the "DVD Creation" program) and import the newly created DV-AVI
file into that and create your DVD.
Also I recommend looking at the DVD's you purchased often times cheap DVD's
give you cheap results.
Many different brand's are good and if you post the question you will get
many different answers as to which are good and which aren't. I personally
use TDK disks mainly ad never get a bad disk.

Wojo - thank you for the encouragement. I already downloaded the ulead free
trial and tried to burn the wmv file to cd. I do not have a dvd burner, only
cd. The same issue occurs. It hangs on the first slide.

I will try to drag the wmv files back and save as DV-AVI. Question, I have
saved the movie maker files in their native format, shoudl I save those
individually as DV-AVI and then use ulead to batch them?

You could but it isn't necessary.
If you wanted you could import each DV-AVI separately and that way Movie
Factory would use each clip as a separate chapter point but if you want
seamless play between the clips you are better off creating one larger
DV-AVI file will all the clips combined and then use Movie Factory to create
chapter points where you want them.
