Hey I have the IBM laptop with windows XP with a CD burner not a DVD burner.
My buddy has the Dell laptop with windows XP with a CD burner not a DVD
burner. When my buddy burns images onto a CD-R we can play it on my DVD
player, when I burn the same images we can't play them on my DVD player. we
are burning the same images the same way. the only difference is that my
laptop requires me to format the CD-R before I burn to it.

My other question is that when I burn the images to the CD-R and I put the
disc in a Mac, the Mac can't read the disc.

Is there some sort of setting I need to change to play the CD-R on my DVD
and to be able to put the CD-R in a Mac?

If you are formatting you cd-rs before burning to them then you are using
packet writing software such as Nero's Incd or Roxio's Drag to Disk. The
disk are formatted as UDF and that is why you can not play them in your DVD
player. I've never used a Mac before but I suspect that the Mac can not read
UDF formatted disks without proper software installed.
