I notice that some operatic arias that I burn to CD-Rs from my hard drive do
not play as well on my home stereo as they do on the cheap speakers that came
with my computer, especially when the song reaches a full-volume point in the
high treble range. The sound has a lot of static way up there. Is this due to
a cheap-priced disc I am using, or wouldn't that have anything to do with it?
I have XP and am burning from Media Player 9 playlists.

I find my cd's screeeech and it seems to happen more
towards the end songs. I have several brands of cd's that
i used to burn and it makes no difference to me. xp iis a
nightmare to me. i am so angry at microtosofttogetitup!

That static sound *may* be evidence of clipping- the volume level of the
audio file being too loud. If that is the case, the defect is there in
the original files also and there's no way to fix it. Can you determine
if the defect exists in the original music files by perhaps turning up the
volume on your computer speakers and scrutinizing the trouble spots in the
tunes?

Burn at 12x, or a lower speed.

Thanks for the help; I see I'm not alone. In reading up further on the
subject,I see that maybe upgrading to a better sound card might help. Don't
know what else to do but complain about it! Or, if I want to spen $15, I
could get the non-free version of Winamp and burn CDs from there. Oh
well.......

I tried your suggestion, but did not notice any screeching and distortion
(static), so I am thinking it may be the cheap sound card in my computer (E
Machines). Thanks for your help.
