i just installed a new Combo burner, pioneer DVR-710.

it recognizes and burns black CDs fine, but when i insert a blank DVD into
the drive, i was thinking it should say 4.7 gigs free..etc..etc..i understand
that Windows wont burn a DVD, but does it not recognize a blank DVD either.
i also go to a another program like real player to burn, and its saying i
still need to instert a blank CD/DVD.

i would like some direction please!

thanks for any ideas

You need a program that burns to DVD.......like NERO
RealPlayer only burns to CD

When you insert a DVD it will be detected but will report it as 0 used space and 0
free space. You can set the different content types to automatically perform an
action or have windows ask you what to do via:
Right click the drive.
Click Properties > AutoPlay tab.

Didn't you get any burning application with the drive?
If not you could try the free CDBurnerXP Pro:
http://www.cdburnerxp.se/features.php

Or you can search online for other burning apps.

Hi Kellan,

According to their web page, your burner comes with Nero. You should be
using that for DVD's. Also this page does show a firmware upgrade, but you
may have it already:

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...588654,00.html

There is also a utility to determine what level of firmware you already
have.

At the very bottom of the page it says:
If you are still having issues with your DVD Computer Drive, please contact
Pioneer at (800) 872-4159.

HTH,
