I'm re-posting this with more information
I'm ghaving problems burning CD's.
XP Pro
Pent3
512 RAM
LG CD-RW CED-8120B CD burner
The problem is that I can only burn CD-RW's and not CR-R's
I've reinstalled the drivers and performed a system restore.
The same problem occurs when I use Widows Media Player, Music Match or the
software that comes with XP.
I've tried both Memorex and TDK discs.
Any suggestions before I scrap it and but another one?

This is a little unusual, normally one cannot burn cd-rw, but can burn
cd-r. One thing to try, right click the drive, select properties,
recording tab, check the box "enable CD recording on this drive".

Have you ever been able to burn the Memorex or TDK disk...? If not I would
still try another brand. If it can burn rw it can burn a r.
I have DVD that won't burn a few different brands of R and RW, mostly the
bulk ebay brands.

i have a similar problem. i'm attempting to burn on the same disks that have
always worked in the past (tdk 700mb cd-r), with musicmatch jukebox 8.2,
which also has always worked in the past. ever since i installed sp2,
burning cd-r does not work. (possible that cd-rw doesn't work, i haven't
tried.) however, the drive will play dvds, burned and original cds, and i
can rip from the drive just fine. i tried other programs recommended by the
drive's manufacturer (it's toshiba dvd-rom sd-2312 that came with my compaq
presario 2500 laptop.)

no dice.

aside from sitting around cursing microsoft and the day i installed sp2 (WHY
can this not be rolled back?!?) does anyone have any suggestions on how to
fix the problem?

also, i contacted toshiba, who said:
"There seems to be many bugs still in SP2 and the only way to get the
functions back is to uninstall it. Contact Microsoft for instructions on how
to successfully remove it."
