My older Plextor 8432T suddenly stopped recognizing formatted CDRW's. If I
take a brand new unformatted CDRW it will record no problem. If I do a
quick format or format (using Nero or EasyCD) it is not recognized. I have
uninstalled the burner and software several times and this keeps on
happening. There is no issue with a CDR at all. I am using XP SP1 with all
the updates.

In addition, my friends' burners work no problem with the same CD's.

Any help is appreciated. Perhaps my burner is defective? I am getting
nowhere with Plextor support rep, Jack.

Hi Mark,

I suggest that you plug your burner to another
Windows XP computer to test the problem. If the issue
persists, it is possible that the burner is defective.

In addition, can you identify when this issue first
occur? If it occurred accidently, what changes were
made around that time?

If your friends burner is faster than your burner on CDRW's and you or he
has erased the disk at the faster speed that may be the problem. I had a 2 x
CDRW that worked fine while I was erasing the disks but when the disk was
erased using a new 52x32x52 burner the older one would not recognise it
anymore.
