Burned files with XP but now some are missing

I hope you can help. I had a bunch of files on a CDRW
and I copied more to the CD with Windows XP. Now the
originals files are missing and only the newly copied
files are there????

This worked properly before - just adding the new files
to the old ones. How come the old ones are missing?

Thanks - they're important files.
