I see a lot of files with names like s2c0, s2c0.1, s2c0.2, s2c0.3 etc.. and
files like s2p4, s2p4.1, s2p4.2 etc... under the c:\, do any of you know
wjhat they are ?
Are they related to some kind of Service Pack ? Is it ok to delete them for
freeing up memory ?

They dont seem to b e related to service pack. To verify what app/service is
creatin them, download and run filemon.exe or process monitor from
http://www.sysinternals.com and check what is creating them. If they are not
getting deleted, then use handle.exe to check what has a handle on these
files.

It is highly recommended to check teh system for virus,worm or malware
through http://safety.live.com

deleting files does NOT free up memory........it frees hard drive space!!

No idea. They are not Windows files.

Probably, but since I don't know what they are, I can't be sure. You
might want to move them elsewhere rather than delete them. Then wait a
week or two and delete them if nothing has complained about their not
being there.

You are mixing up disk space and memory. They are two different
things. You can free disk space, not memory, by deleting files. How
many files are they? How much disk space do they take?

I tried to do what you suggested and when I open
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm and run the Full scan, I
always get Internet Explorer Script error.

Do you know what that could be ?

Well, I wasn't talking about Virtual memory, I meant Hard Disk Memory.

Is it not supposed to be called that ?

Right. The word "memory" is normally reserved for "RAM"--the thing you
have probably have 512MB or so of. That's very different from the
space on the hard drive, which is normally called "storage," "disk
space," or "hard drive space."

Using the correct name is really important when asking for help,
because if you get it wrong, people are likely to misunderstand you,
and you may get an incorrect, and possibly dangerous, answer.

I figured out the reason for these Mystery Files.

Everytime, I get an email in my Outlook Express, my Anti Virus Software does
a SPAM check and creates a Log in these names.
I am going to look for that setting which creates a log everytime. If any of
you guys know about, I would appreciate your help.
