BullGuard Spamfilter corrupts Outlook

Having just spoken to BullGuard support
I can confirm that their latest update last week
causes Outlook Plain Text Sent messages
to be corrupted.

My Sent message appears in Chinese and/or
the received message appears as '??????????'

The cause is the BullGuard Spam filter
and I was advised to turn it off.

"The BullGuard product relies upon fellow users to identify spam; once
e-mail is marked as spam, all other Spamfilter users will no longer
receive that e-mail in their in-boxes."
http://news.cnet.com/8301-10789_3-9856660-57.html

So this is yet another community voting scheme to identify spam. This
is not new. This scheme doesn't work unless you are very slow in
polling your mail accounts for new messages in hoping that someone else
has already ranked the message as spam. What it really means is that
you WILL see spam and you get to vote on it so someone ELSE won't see
it. It also means that you are subjecting yourself to the lack of
expertise of boobs that vote a message is spam when, in fact, it is
simply unwanted e-mail. UCE and UBE have definitions regarding spam but
rare few users go by anyone's standards other than they got nuisanced
with an unwanted e-mail.

I trialed that product a long time ago. First thing I noticed was that
I would still spam because I monitor my account continuously (polling at
10-minute intervals but alerted as soon as one shows up). Voting on it
just means someone ELSE didn't get to see that spam. That didn't help
ME get rid of the spam. Yeah, if you only check your e-mails once or
twice per day and only after starting your e-mail client all to make
sure that others have had time to mark a suspect mail as spam then it
might have some value.

The purpose of my posting was not to complain
or raise issues about Bullguard Spamfilter but
rather to alert Bullguard Users to another
more serious problem which can be overcome.

And my response was to warn anyone wondering about trialing the
anti-spam product because of noticing your post that it may not be want
they want for an effective filter.

The "overcome" solution is NOT to use the product. So perhaps the real
solution is to not use it at all and find something better, something
that doesn't require the delay incumbent in a voting scheme.

Can you imagine anyone reading my subject line
who doesn't already have Bullguard then
going out to buy it?
I wanted to alert Bullguard Users!
I am confident the issue will be resolved shortly.

My goodness! If we applied the same logic to Microsoft they would have gone
broke years ago.

BTW, have you reported this issue to Bullguard? I haven't but have found
them very responsive to problems in the past.

Tadjio

You could have posted and worded it differently and VanguardLH was more than correct
in his reply and warning to others.

Their SpamFilter component is free. It's been free since Jan 25, 2008.
You did NOT mention WHICH of their products that you have. You only
said "BullGuard Spam filter" which could mean just their free Spamfilter
product.

Someone seeing your post who does NOT currently use Bullguard might wait
until they fix the problem that you reported and then trial it. So I
mentioned that it is a voting scheme because some users looking for an
anti-spam solution don't care for voting schemes.
