Built in SD-Card does not show drive letter

I upgraded my Tablet PC to Vista Home Premium and now I can't get the built
in SD-Card to show as a storage drive. When I insert the SD card in the slot,
Windows makes the sound accepting new hardware, and I can see it recognizes
the new Secure Digital controller under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, as a new
PCMCIA device.

The very first time I used Vista, I could see the SD drive. After runing
Windows update it never worked again, even re-installing the upgrade all over
again.

Anyone has a clue how to fix this problem? Is it a know issue in Vista?

did you try to see the "safely remove hardware" to see if it shows a driver
letter, because i know if you have a program like tweakVI you can actually
set the computer not to show a certain drive in the my computer, and the
only way to show it again is to re-enable the option, now sometimes it's
done by accident not on purposes, for example when i load the tweakvi before
i close the program i have to go re-enable the option so that my taskmanager
option stays enabled(i know i'm being vagued but it's kinda hard to
explain.) so may be if you have that program or a similar program you might
have or someone else removed it from the "my computer"

I've seen quite a few SD card upgrade failures (including the laptop that I'm
typing from right now).

In my case, I fixed it with a download of a Vista compatilbe driver from HP
(I'm using a Toshiba laptop) - after identifying the manufacturer of the SD
card reader using the device ID number in the device's properties. You can
search the Vendor and ID number at the http://www.pcidatabase.com

On another system at work (another Toshiba) I had to download the drivers
from the Gateway website - and interestingly noted that there had to be an SD
card in the slot while installing it.

So, I removed the other drivers that I'd tried, uninstalled the unknown
device and rebooted. Cancelled out of the new hardware wizard and then
installed the drivers with an SD card in the slot.

This changed the unknown device from an "unknown PCI device" to an "Unknown
Mass Storage Controller". So I went to update the driver, refused to let
Windows search or look for the driver - and then ended up selecting the
driver that I wanted to install manually (there was an SD Compatible device
listed in the new hardware wizard.

After a reboot all was well and the SD card worked great!
