Built in CD burning sets archive flag on files backed up. Can it be fixed?

I have noticed that files copied to CD-R using explorer to burn them with
the built in CD burning on WinXP Pro SP1 get the archive flag (attribute)
set after copying them to the CD staging area. This is causing much
problems with our backup scheme as the archive flag is cleared during
backup. Copying files to CD causes these files to then appear not backed up
to the backup program.

Note that it is the original files on the hard drive that are having the
archive attribute set just from taking a copy to CD. This cannot be the
right behaviour.

Is this a known issue, and is there a setting that can be changed to prevent
this behaviour?

Thanks for your reponses.
