I have been having issues with pc reboots. I am being
presented with the following dump(s)

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck
was: 0x0000007f (0x00000008, 0x00000000, 0x00000000,
0x00000000). Microsoft Windows 2000 [v15.2195]. A dump was
saved in: C:\WINNT\Minidump\Mini010706-03.dmp.

referring to? or a location to find the information.

I have tested memory, replaced video card, un installed any
software that I thought may be an influence - pretty much
stuck at the moment.

I'd look at any new hardware that was installed and or any drivers that were
recently updated.

thanks Dave,

recently replaced modem (hence when internet connected?)
replaced video card after the problem started, first thought
was that this was the problem.
removed, re installed changed etc modem a number of times
but no joy, different pci slots.

The modem is an internal type and during install it shows
that there are at least 6 other com ports in use. I have com
1 and 2 on MB, modem in com 4, 56789 are all shown as "in
use" - is this normal for win 2k - I have not noticed it
before?

No, definitely not normal. I'd try removing the modem (and non-existent com
ports) for a while and see what happens.

located an external modem and installed, so far it appears
as if the "issues" have been resolved
been on nearly an hour so hopefully OK, thanks again for the
pointers and advice.

Any ideas on what may have caused the "ghost" com ports, I
assule they were related to the internal modem as they are
not visible anywhere now.

Maybe some (missing) jumper settings on the internal modem?

I seem to remember that some modems made the extended range of COM ports
available to the user.

Thanks for the suggestion, there are no jumper options at
all, probably som abberation - the ones that all computers
and OS's throw up to make life interesting :-)

I have installed quite a few of these modems in XPs, win98
and win ME without any problems at all, try one in my own
machine and it chucks a wobble.....

Took modem out and put on an external and all appears to be
working fine

Hard to say. Might be the driver wasn't quite correct or driver was buggy.
