When I ran Autoarchive to archive folders according to their individual
settings I found that Outlook 2007 SP1 didn't close the folders it opened
leaving 80+ open archive folders open.

This behavior is new to 2007.

This wouldn't qualify as a bug report because you are omitting configuration
information.
How exactly do you have your AutoArchive configured? You're archiving to 80+
different pst-files?

I believe this is not a bug but that you have simply misconfigured things.
If you don't want the archive pst-files to connect to Outlook simply
deselect the AutoArchive option "Show archive folder in folder list"
