When I open MS Antispyware to update and / or run a scan it always opens to
the setup assistant. I have gone through the setup procedure now numerous
times but it doesn't seem have saved the setup. Please help.

1) uninstall Microsoft antispyware
2) delete \program files\microsoft antispyware and all subfolders thereof.
You'll lose access to quarantined items, history, and custom settings.
3) reinstall Microsoft antispyware from the latest version download, taking
care to be logged in as the administrator user who will most frequently use
the program.

A combination of the two above worked. I uninstalled MSAS and ensured that I
deleted all of the microsoft antispyware files and folders by searching the c
drive. I then deleted all files and history in IE and then rebooted. I
downloaded MSAS and on installation I chose to install to a different
location (c:\microsoft antispyware) and then went through the rest of the
installation and setup. Works as it should now. Thanks for your help.

Joel - I believe that what is happening is corruption in one or more of the
..gcd files, located in the install directory.

You should be fine now--but if this recurs, you should be able to simply
delete those files and do a repair install, and that should fix it. In
fact, maybe I should change my prescription, except that what I've been
stating is easy to describe.

I have the same problem
I thought it was the old problem of me having English UK and not English US
but that workaround didn't work. I'll try re-installing as well.

Rather than reinstalling beta1, I would recommend moving on to
beta2:--Windows Defender

Download and run--it'll remove the older version.

Some things to know about the new version: No icon is displayed, and no
desktop shortcut. The icon will appear if user input would be needed.

Updates come in via either auto-update (within the program) or you can get
them by visiting Windows Update.

A good many of the advanced tools are gone, but those remaining are
enhanced.
