Buffer Overflow Problem Windows Media Player 11

At times I will download a avi or wmv or mpg video file from the Internet and
when I run it with windows media player McAfee anti-virus will warn about a
buffer overflow problem and then I choose to block the activity then must use
control-alt-delete to bring up the windows media player to stop it from
running because it locks up.
I also get the McAfee buffer over flow warning in windows explorer when I
click on some of the avi files.
Can I ignore these buffer overflow problems by telling McAfee to ignore the
buffer overflow or should I discard the videos as possible infected files? One
other note when I play the mpg files using WinDVD I get no buffer over flow
errors.

Check your WMP for security updates using the built-in update and at
Microsoft Update. Buffer overflow problems entail a significant security
risk to you and if WMP really has the problem you should not be using it at
all. On the other hand if McAfee AV is simply "crying wolf" all the time
what use is it anyway? You can use Quicktime to play .mpeg files or even
Videolan VLC player : http://www.videolan.org/ . Try cross-posting to
microsoft.public.multimedia.windows.mediaplayer if you still are having
problems with this after checking for updates or contact McAfee for
guidance.

Hi,
Did you ever find a fix for this?
I am having the exact same issue.
The avi files play fine in Nero Showtime and Quicktime but they cause a
buffer overflow when I use media player or just mouse over them in explorer.
Thanks
