I might not be in the right topic or category, but i'm givin it a shot.

Insert XP Pro Corp Ser Pack 2 CD into drive,
boot pc to CD,
accept terms, choose HD, delete partitions and format drive, all OK.

Please Wait while windows copies the setup files to your hard drive...

Missing File, or file not found "XYZ.dll" please make sure the windows xp install disk is in the drive and that your cd rom is functioning.
Missing file, or file not found "XYZ.chq" blah blah blah (where xyz = many different files each time i tried to install XP, and each time, it was different files missing)

Enter to search again // Esc to ignore // f3 to quit setup

Sometimes when search again it will find the missing file, but another one always pops up again.

So i continued to load windows without these files.
windows would load up but all files on my storage drive were now being read as 'corrupted' , no exe files would work, no zip files would unzip. they all said "corrupted".

So i formated again, i tried two different cd's and a two different cd rom drives, same problem kept happening with the missing files.

On my last attempt i tried a different hard drive altogether, no luck, missing files,
after the missing files occured, i had a Blue screen of Death with the following : 0x000000c2 and a slew of other 0x errors,
Could be my RAM, i'm running DDR PC2300 when my mother board only supports PC2100. so i have taken out my new gig of ram (which by the way worked fine last week, but it IS around the same time i started having problems with the system and started thsi whole re-install)

I'll update on what the ram out, does.

Peace, gotta run to catch a bus!

I can say quite category, that when encountering errors while installing XP (and Vista) 80% of the time it is the memory.

What can seem good memory, can turn out to have faults, because of the way XP uses memory. Memory, just like everything else in a PC can fail over time.

Even some memory testing program can report all is fine, but XP will find the bad spots every time.

Motherboard manufacturers all have a list or recommended memory they have test that works ... however, Crucial's website is even better. Always get the correct memory that your MB supports. Just follow Crucial's guide and you shouldn't go to far wrong.

I'm not grouchy by nature, it takes constant effort.

After FOUR YEARS of absolutely no computer problems, I'm the still |337 !
hah, the ram-out worked, i took it back to those bitches who sold it to me and they wanted almost double the cash for some PC2100 ****e, i said no, you mufluckas guaranteed me that the shizz would work. And now my system is all effed so c'mon, fork it over.

Anywhoo... i'm back up and running. Its strange that i never got the blue screen earlier in the mess, because i had installed windows about 12 times over a couple days and it was only when i switched hard drives that i got the BSOD, maybe we should get it more often, those 0x0 codes were extremely helpfull to find the problem online.

Peace \ /
