First of all, it would *really* help if you would provide some details re
your system...
1. Is this a desktop PC or a laptop/notebook?
2. Is it an OEM machine (Acer, Dell, Gateway, eMachines, etc.)?
3. Do you have any idea of the make & model of the motherboard in your
machine?
4. Do you have the motherboard's installation CD that contains the board's
drivers?
5. Are you using, or do you have, an XP (including SP2 and/or SP3)
installation CD that's a retail version of that operating system or a
non-branded OEM version of the installation CD? Or do you have *only* the
recovery-type CD that might have come with your system?
5. Is the motherboard SATA-capable or is this a capability you later added
through a SATA PCI controller card or some such?
6. You mention the year 2001. Have you been using this machine since that
date? Have you been using it with one or more PATA (non-SATA) HDDs and the
machine has functioned without problems?
7. Is this the first time you installed a SATA HDD in your system? Has it
ever worked with a SATA HDD?
8. And we're talking about a single SATA HDD here, right? This is not some
RAID configuration you're contemplating, right?
9. Has this machine worked at all?
Please...
Provide details re your system and the precise nature of the problem(s)
you're experiencing. What exactly happens when you try to install the XP OS
onto your SATA HDD? The system indicates it can't find a HDD? What?
Describe to us the exact steps you're undertaking to get the XP OS installed
on your SATA HDD and the exact problem(s) you're experiencing in doing so.
