Just received ar BSOD after I booted up the pc & checking email-
This is the message received-

A problem has been detected & windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer.

IF this is the first time you have seen this stop error screen restart your
computer.
IF this screen appears again follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space .IF a driver is identified in
the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for
drivers updates.Try changing Video adapters.Check with Hardware vendor for
Bios update.Disable Bios options such as Caching or Shadowing.
If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, press F8 to
slect advanced start up options & select safe mode.
Tech information-
STOP:0x0000008E(0xC0000005,0XBF824347,0XF6C9F9F8,0x000000)

Win32k .Sys address
BF824347 Base at BF800000
Date Stamp 48 ce513a
Beginning Dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete

Contact your system administrator or technical support group for assistance.

That is the full text of the message & the error codes. Can you please tell
me what needs to be checked? I am wondering if it could be faulty memory.

Thanks !

Here is your possibilities
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=829578&sd=RMVP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315335&sd=RMVP
0x0000008E: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
(Click to consult the online MSDN article.)
A kernel mode program generated an exception which the error handler didn’t catch.
These are nearly always hardware compatibility issues (which sometimes means a
driver issue or a need for a BIOS upgrade).
a.. “STOP 0x0000008e” Error Message During Windows XP Setup {KB 315335} Win XP
b.. Games: “Stop” Error Message That References Nv4_disp.dll {KB 325730} Flight
Simulator, other games (wth Nvidia-based video adapter)
c.. Your Computer Stops Responding When You Use the Highlighter Feature & the Font
Color Feature {KB 829578} Win XP

Has the error occurred more than once?

Background information on Stop Error message 0x8E
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms794023.aspx

0x0000008E: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
A kernel mode program generated an exception which the error handler
didn't catch. These are nearly always hardware compatibility issues
(which sometimes means a driver issue or a need for a BIOS upgrade).
Source: http://aumha.org/a/stop.htm

Are there important data files not backed up you need to recover. If yes
you need to do that first.

What is the computer make and model? When was the computer purchased
new? Do you have access to a second computer? What make and model?

What do you have by way of a Windows XP CD?

What are the anti-virus and anti-spyware arrangements on the computer?

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties,
Hardware,Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What
drivers are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not

This may be a "red herring" but here's a list of Remote Control software.

1st DameWare NT Utilities 24%
2nd Radmin 3.0 Remote Control 18%
3rd AdminMagic 9%
4th RemotelyAnywhere 8%
5th Desktop Authority 6%
6th GoverLAN 4%
6th Net Control 2 4%
6th NetSupport Manager 4%

Is the computer yours or one provided by your employers for your use?
Remote Control software can be used to provide support and users
probably often do not know it is on the computer.

Hope this helps.
