I am trying to help a friend figure out why when she is bowsing with IE that
some images on the page don't display. Her friend who is surfing with her,
is able to view everything.. Her Internet Options Advanced tab is the same
as mine and I am able to view all images. We were in the process of trying
to find out what the problem was and she rushed off to Best Buy where she
says she has a warranty. They looked at it and couldn't figure it out.. and
wanted to charge her $130 to back up her files and format her C Drive. They
said her warranty didn't cover software that might be causing the problem...
(of course since they couldn't figure it out they don't know if it's
software) (She paid over $350 for that warranty which is about worthless to
her) So here I am.. Appreciate any help.. it could save my friend an
unnecessary format.. She is using windows XP Pro..I'm sorry I don't know
what updates she has. thanks Rainy

Do you see Red Xs in place of the images?

Maybe the followng articles will offer some ideas:

(915158) A red X is displayed instead of a
picture on some Web pages in Internet Explorer
in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=915158

(837489) Not all Web site content loads
when you use Internet Explorer 6
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=837489

(283807) Pictures Are Not Displayed on Web
Sites in Internet Explorer
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=283807

Thank you so much.. as soon as she brings her computer home.. without having
them try and fix it.. she can follow some of the ideas here.. I clicked on
the last link.. and think it has something to do with Java, Active X etc.. I
can try and help her if those best buy people haven't formatted yet.. thank
you so much! Rainy

Threaten her with a slow miserable death if she goes back to Best Buy. I
worked on a laptop this weekend that came from the Geek Squad. They charged
$70 to diagnose a bad hard drive, sold the owner a new hard drive, were
unable to fix the PC without a restore disk and charged him $220 total. The
symptoms clearly showed that they misdiagnosed the problem--it was merely a
driver conflict, not a defective drive. I put the old drive back in the
laptop, backed up all the important business data and fixed the PC in less
than an hour. If you stick around in the newsgroups long enough, you will
hear many other stories about the Geeks and their competency--appears to be
a nation wide problem (disgrace?).

I completely agree.. first she had a warranty.. then they couldn't fix it..
and mentioned that the warranty didn't cover bad software... if they
couldn't fix it.. how did they know it was bad software.. then wanted to
charge her more money to format.. I love best buy to purchase things, but
not for technical advice.. I have been in this group for years .. it's
awesome.. has helped me to fix my own computer.. I will send this to her...
shame on her for being so impatient.. thanks for agreeing with me.. Rainy

Just wait 'til the clerk tries to sell you an extended warranty on a 95¢
mousepad.

You'll giggle yourself to death.

lol it's not me, I know better.. the update for my friend is she got them to
format and backup her files for free! I would not want to format for any
reason, but I guess she felt she was one above them.. by getting them to do
something for nothing.. hugs Rainy
