I have 2 PC's on a home network, if I go to start run and type \\pcname\c$
it pops up username and password, however the usernname is greyed out with
pcname\guest this PC I'm connecting to is WinXP home edition and mine is
WinXP Pro.

I want to put my username and password in?

I think you have posted this problem before and nobody answered you
right? I dunno and I am just guessing... but I think you need to create
the same user name and password on the other computer. Thus when you
logon to it, this will use that account. Otherwise I believe it is
forcing you to be a guest on that other computer. I don't know, but I
very well could be wrong.

First off, I don't believe administrative/hidden shares, such
as C$, exist on a
computer running XP Home. If you're looking to access resources
on your XP HE system, you're going to have to share specific
folders.

Second, you cannot disable Simple File Sharing on a XP HE
system. Translated, forget about creating a matching account on
the HE system. That's not how it works. Network access is
provided through the Guest account. You shouldn't be asked for
a password. To fix that problem, do the following on your XP
Home system.

Go to Start ->Run and enter cmd.exe in the Open box.
Click OK.
Enter the following at the command prompt.

net user guest /active:yes

Hit Enter.

Restart both computers.

Create a shared folder on your XP Home System. The best
approach is to share the Shared Documents folder and place any
files you want to access from the Pro system in this folder.

If you get any Access Denied error messages, try logging off
and back on the XP Pro system.

Gonzo, sorry I can't help with your problem, but here's some info on posting
and finding posts. You're other post was on 5/8, and there have been no
responses to it. If you can't find a post, one way to locate it is to
search for it using Google Groups Advanced search. Here is a link to that.

Search all newsgroups or in a particular one. This one is
microsoft.public.windowsxp.general. You can search for posts with your name
as author and filter that search by data, subject, keyword, newsgroup, etc.

Lastly, I'm not sure why you're not finding the previous post using Outlook
Express. One thing to do is Ctrl-H which will filter for threads you've
been involved in. Are you downloading enough headers? This newsgroup gets
around 400 a day. Under Tools | Options (I'm using Windows Mail under
Vista. OE is similar and I think the setting is in the same place) leave
the box blank for how many headers to get at a time and it will download all
the headers, or just repeatedly tell it to get the next xxx headers (as you
have it set) until you can find your post.
