Dear all,

I know I have posted similar requests here before but to date there has been
no resolution and the problem still persists.

We have an issue with IE6 where pages are slow to load, when navigating to
http://news.bbc.co.uk (for example) you will see the page loading and at the
bottom left corner of IE you will see 36 items remaining, 35 items remaining
etc until you get to one item remaining - at that stage the page stops; if
you click on a link the page will not open (ie Explorer navigates to the
page but the page doesn't refresh so you cannot see any information). This
is happening on all web pages with the exception of http://www.google.co.uk
but then when you click on a search link the problem appears.

I have run Spyware scans (AdAware, Spybot and Microsoft), Virus Scans
(Norton AntiVirus), Java Scans (Housecall's TrendMicro), BHO scans (BHO
Demon), re-registered DLL's, set the Internet Explorer to default settings,
ensured that the default application for GIFS is IE, renamed the HOST file,
changed the network cable, reloaded the NIC driver and tried a
re-installation of IE. A system restore doesn't help nor does logging onto
the PC as a different user - this issue is not user specific but PC. I
loaded Mozilla Firefox and that works a treat but our Intranet page was
written for IE and some of the functionality doesn't work on Firefox.

After spending countless hours on Google and here trawling through old posts
(until I must know the fix by now for most other IE errors) I cannot
pinpoint a resolution. If I see someone else posting another reply to run a
Spyware scan I think I'll just flip out!!

been able to do is re-image the PC to resolve but I'm worried that this
issue is spreading and I don't want a "re-image" to be the resolution. We
have had this problem crop up on XP (SP1), XP (SP2) and W2K (SP4) - all of
these PC's are between 1 and 6 months old. I guess to resolve I need to know
what caused the problem but nothing I can think of prompts it. Users have
not loaded software or hardware - the only thing I can think of is that we
have enabled automatic updates and so wondered if one of those has caused
the problem?

Anyway, sorry to ramble - if anyone has some good suggestions please do
help.

Corrupted cache? Delete the Temporary Internet Files folder
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm Set the size of the new TIF folder
to about 50-60 MB.

Many thanks but these fixes have not resolved the issue either - however I
think I have a clue to what is causing our problems. We run Novell Client v
4.90 SP1 with Zenworks Agent4; all of these users with IE issues reported
Zenworks errors shortly before IE started acting up. We resolved the
Zenworks Agent issue by a re-install of the agent but somehow (!!) it seems
it has rendered IE useless.

I guess I now need to look at the Novell forum....

I have had this problem ever since I installed XP SP2 afew months ago.
I uninstalled SP2 last night and the problem has gone. All pages open
quickly again. The moral is to NEVER install SP2.

Wrong.
First fix your problems and then install SP2.
First eliminate any spyware.

Just thought I would let you know the fix if anyone was interested. The
fault was down to ZenWorks Agent 4; it seemed that all of the users who had
experienced IE issues had problems with the agent hanging on login that day.
My guys had just re-loaded the agent to quick fix thus somehow causing the
browser to bomb out.

To resolve I removed ZenWorks agent and tested IE - ran like a dream;
re-installed Zenworks and IE carried on working like a dream!!
