Everytime I open ie6, it goes to windows update. The home page is setup to go to yahoo. I ran Ad Aware & Spy bot with no results. I also ran hijack this. I didn't see anything that didn't belong. The only time that the problem doesn't show up is when I boot the computer in safe mode. Any ideas what's wrong?

Run MSCONFIG from the start/run applet.
Under System.ini is there any entry referencing IEXPLORE.EXE?

Or under the startup tab. Anythere also?

Thanks, but I believe I fixed the underlying problem. I
had to change the permissions in the registry. I don't
know how they were changed. Everything works fine now,
including being able to change the home page.

IE Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Browsing>Automatically check for IE
updates (uncheck)
