I had placed 3 HL-2040 printers in the hands of family members back when
Staples sold these for a song. Two of them are now exhibiting the same
symptom: when printing more than 1 page, the printer stalls with a jam as
the second page starts to emerge from the fuser.
I've Googled this and come up with discussions leading to 2 potential
issues:
1. A Small black lever attached to a horizontal rod in the paper path as
the paper leaves the fuser. The rod can come out of its mount slightly
making the lever not activate the sensor it is designed to trigger. Gently
reseating the rod down and to the right (so the lever sits properly).
2. Under the left cover, near the front, is a spring-loaded gear which is
driven by a solenoid. If the gear turns more than 1 revolution per page, a
small felt pad is sticking to the solenoid and needs to be separated.
One one printer I found #1 to be present and did the fix. No difference.
In both printers the gear in #2 turns at least twice. I see a solenoid
below if but no rubber or felt pad adherent.
Any help with this? Otherwise they go in the trash and I go for HP
replacemnts.
