Broken System Restore

Windows XP Home SP3

I have reinstalled system restore using sr.inf and it did not correct the
problem.

It will create system restore points. The problem is it will not restore
them after a reboot.

If I clean out the restore points, then create a new one it will restore
properly. After a reboot it is unable to restore.

Something happens when I reboot that corrupts the restore points. Any
thoughts as to what that something is.

Thanks

third party anti virus
programs and firewalls
are known to inhibit
system restore.

for example, they can
block "any" program
from making modifications
to the system as a
method to prevent
corruption.

Suggest you modify your startup folder deleting one item at a time till you
find the source of the problem.

Upon reboot, have you tried starting in Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Command
prompt and trying to restore from there?

Thanks it worked in safe mode. To know that I can do a system restore if
needed makes me feel better. For some reason I think Win Patrol might be the
culprit. I recently installed a new version.

I've never had any dealings with Win Patrol, but you may be right.
Glad you got SR to work!

Roy

What is your anti-virus programme? What firewall? Are you using an
external drive?

Hope this helps.

It is not necessary to run use System Restore in Safe Mode.

Even though it works that way, you still have a problem.
