both of my shift key aren't working, i would consider it
a busted key if it weren't both. is there any program or
diagnosic i can use to fix this

Boot your machine with a Win98 boot disk from
www.bootdisk.com, then test your keyboard. If
the shift keys work then the problem is caused
by WinXP. If they don't work then you have a
problem with your keyboard or with the motherboard.
