Broadband Modem Problem

Have recently had BT Broadband (UK)installed and the
modem works with my laptop (XP Home Edn)without any
problems. Have performed same installation procedure on
PC (XP Prof) unable to connect to broadband. Internal
modem in pc is disconnected and have reformatted hard
drive

Situation has not improved. Grateful for any
suggestions/advice.
