Hi. I bought a Belkin Wireless G router, have DSL with Desktop and Notebook.
Both have WXP. When trying to run new connection wizard the option "conncet
using a broadband connection that requires a user name ans password" won't
appear. I can only see "connect using a broadband connection that is always
on".
What can I do ?

You don't need to create a new connection on your computers. They
connect to the Internet through a local area network connection to the
Belkin router.

Your Belkin router connects to your DSL service, so you need to
configure the router to log on with a user name and password.

If you have a Network card (or on Mobo Network) and the drivers installed
correctly a Local Network Connection would be installed even if you are Not
connected to any thing.

This network Connection would be set to auto and the Router probably would
automatically detect it. You need to log to the Router's Menu with the
Internet Browser, using the Router's IP and Password as indicated in the
Router's Manual, and insert into the DSL/PPPOE menu your DSL provider ID and
Password.

If your Network does Not Work.

In General, you can debug the Network Setting of the computer following
these steps.

Step One. Check the Network parameters in the Computer's Device Manager.
Make sure that the drivers are installed correctly; there is No IRQ
conflict, and No Ghost installation. http://www.ezlan.net/faq#ghost

Step Two Verify Basic network setting in the OS:

If the above two Steps indicates that every thing looks good but
functionally it does not work.

Step Three. Check (and repair if necessary) the Socket Layers, Winsock, and

You don't need to configure anything on your computers.

The computers don't log onto your DSL service -- only the router does.
The computers get Internet access through a standard Ethernet (local
area network) connection to the router. The computers don't know, and
don't care, what type of Internet connection the router uses.

Configure the router to log onto your DSL service with a user name and
password. The router will handle the details, and it will hide those
details from the computers.

I think Diego knows all that. His problem is that he logs on to the router's
setup page and is unable to select the option to add his login details to his
ISP.

Diego, where are you? If you are in the UK I think all broadband suppliers
use PPPoA not PPPoE. Do you have the option to select PPPoA? If you do then
the login details page should become available to you. I don't have a Belkin
router myself but had a Netgear GT624 that I couldn't get to work with my
3Com modem. Bought a Netgear WG634GT (with built in modem) and that had the
PPPoA option where the 624 didn't.

Have you tried the Belkin web site? Do they have a support or users forums
section?

Yes, that information helps. It shows that:

1. The Local Area Connection needs to be re-configured so that you can
use it to configure the router.

2. The Wireless Network Connection isn't working yet.

3. You've apparently had the DSL modem connected directly to the
computer in the past, using the "PPP adapter ADSL Montevideo COMM".

Here's what you need to do:

1. Change the TCP/IP properties on the Local Area Connection so that
it obtains an IP address automatically. It currently has a manually
configured IP address.

2. Temporarily connect the computer to one of the router's LAN ports
using an Ethernet cable.

3. Enter this address in Internet Explorer to get access to the
router's configuration pages:

http://192.168.2.1

4. Log into the router, which probably involves entering a user name
and/or password. Refer to the router's documentation for details.

5. Configure the router to connect to your DSL service using a user
name and password. If the DSL service requires specific TCP/IP
settings (IP address default gateway, DNS servers), which the PPP
Adapter settings seem to indicate, you'll have to configure that,
too. Consult with your DSL provider for details.

6. Enable and configure the router's wireless capabilities, specifying
a wireless network name (SSID) and encryption options.

7. Save the new settings on the router.

8. Make sure that the computer can access the Internet through the
router using an Ethernet cable.

When all that is working, you can disconnect the Ethernet cable from
the router, configure the computer's wireless network connection, and
have wireless network access.
