Briefcase Slow Access

when I am going to other site, with slow network connection, the access to
the briefcase is very slow. We are using Windows XP Pro SP2
When I disconect the PC from the network the briefcase works properly, but
when I connect again to the network the briefcase is slow again and sometimes
the Windows Explorer is not responding accessing files.
How Can I disable any parameter to check if the file is up-to-date everytime
I connect the computer into the network?
