Briefcase Removal

On my laptop at work, I use Briefcase to synchronize files on the
network with the laptop hard drive.

I don't want to synchronize anymore. I want to disconnect the
Briefcase from the equation without deleting any files on the network
or the hard drive.

I've seen MS articles on how to create and use the Briefcase, but not
how to safely remove it.

What do I do?
