Briefcase Read-Only Problem During Synchronization

I'm using Small Business Server 2003 and I have four users with laptops I'm
trying to setup to use brief case. In the brief case are sub folders from
their home folder on the server. When they synchronize everything works fine
except for new files they have created on the laptop. We get a message that
they are not update (created actually) on the server because of read-only
files! I have looked at all the access rights to shares, folders, and files
and I don't see any read-only restrictions. Has anyone else experienced this
and do you have a solution? At this point I'd even consider a work around.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
