Briefcase problems!

I have a desktop and a laptop that I synch with Windows
Briefcase. This can be done without problem, over a
network, by accessing the briefcase (which is on the
laptop) from the desktop.

However, if I try to update the briefcase on the laptop
directly, I get a message saying that the files cannot be
updated because they are inaccessible.

Help!

The desktop is running Windows XP Home SP-1 and the
laptop Windows TE - it's a Toshiba 3500
