I have been using briefcase for years without problems
until now. I got a new laptop and I created a briefcase
and draged files to it. The next time I open the briefcase
and try to update the files I get the message that the
files are orphans and will not be updated. I have deleted
the briefcase and started over from scratch and the same
thing happens. Any suggestions of where to start looking
for problems?

Did you try dragging the briefcase back onto the computer where it was
created, before trying to sync the files?
Had a similar problem with briefcase lately and this was the fix for me.
