The box at the bottom of my Save or Save As function has disappeared. I can't
name or rename a file or save it. It will automatically save using the first
few words of the text, but I need to be able to change a name or Save As to
the A: drive.

And after you've exited Word and re-booted Windows do you still see the same?
Which version of Word do you have?
