I've been working with a user to move a .pst file and we can't find the files
during a search. Assuming it was a Show Hidden Files and Folders issue I had
her go change the setting on her laptop. She reports that both Show and
Don't Show are checked. When she gets it so only Show is checked and then
OKs out she still can't see hidden files and folders. When she goes back to
check both Show and Don't Show are both checked again.

The only thing unusual I can see is that the Enable Access check boxes in
Add/Remove Programs is not checked for the Mail applications. I told her to
go ahead and check them and see what happens. I'm waiting for a response
from her.

What can cause both Show and Don't Show Hiddens to be checked and changes
don't seem to take effect?

Thanks

Tom

Tom

Your are most likely misunderstanding each other.

Go to Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View, Advanced Settings
and verify that the box before "Show hidden files and folders" is
checked and "Hide protected operating system files " is unchecked. You
may need to scroll down to see the second item. You should also make
certain that the box before "Hide extensions for known file types" is
not checked. Next in Windows Explorer make sure View, Details is
selected and then select View, Choose Details and check before Name,
Type, Total Size, and Free Space.

In Windows Explorer search All Users ensuring you have selected
Advanced Options and clicked on the box before Search System Folders,
Search Hidden Files and Folders and Search Sub-Folders.

Hope this helps.
