A friend replaced the ink cartridges on two printers
and they both are printing blank pages. She says she
took the protective strips of plastic off. What else
could it be?

HP Digital Copier 610
Epson Stylus CX5400

Thanks, : -)

If they are both on the same USB (or the same port if
parallel, network, or serial) it could be the port.
Any response from the printers to indicate that they
are receiving data? Epsons flash their power light
when they are busy or receiving data.

The source of the cartridges is irrelevant unless any of them are defective and
need to be returned. Does she have the cartridges she took out? Why were all of
them replaced at the same time.....in other words were the printers still
printing with the original cartridges installed? If they were still printing
with the old cartridges then put them back and see what happens.
If all is OK then either the new cartridges were incorrectly installed or she
has an unusual coincidence (more than one bad cartridge)....my guess in that
case is incorrect installation.
If the same problem occurs with the old cartridges installed then there may be
a PC hardware fault (perhaps a port failure) or some sort of driver corruption
in which case I would uninstall both printers, reboot and reinstall one printer
only and see what happens.

Does the epson flash it's green power light as you send a print?
Feeding paper can be triggered when the printer sees a connection,
it does not necessarily mean it's receiving data.
If it is receiving data then the only common factor is the cartridges,
which appear from a previous post, to be from the same supplier.
It could be a wrong (for the printer) ink formulation, causing the
residue of the previous ink, still in the printer, to gel and block the
jets.
Other possibilities are an air lock from incorrect procedure when
changing the cartridges, the cartridges are remanufactured and
the cartridge chip hasn't been reset or is faulty (my printer goes
dead when the empty cartridge light comes on solid), or
an interface problem. Only thing you could try is another PC.
WinXP recognises most printers.
If both printers use the same cable, moved from printer to
printer, you could try another cable.

Like Tony, I wonder why all 8 carts needed changing at the same time. Had
the printers been lying unused for a while? If so the heads could be full
of dried up ink.

Measekite makes up for his total lack of knowledge and actual help by posting
some words in really big letters. That is his area of expertise, not printer
help. Isn't there a fonts group for people fixated with letters and point sizes?
Gary.
