Several times a day I get a BOSD with the error message 0X000000F4. Google
has not produced an usable solution.
There is no new HW or SW installed, the event viewer is clean. There is no
virus or spyware, in fact no change has been made for several months.
Any help would be much appreciated
Harry

Hi Harry,

1. Does it happen in Safe Mode?
2. How long before it happens when the machine is first turned on? It
could be due to heat. Failed fans in the power supply, cpu, video card,
or case could be suspect.
3. Does it happen with 1 program open or only many? You could have bad RAM.
4. Does it happen when the hard drive is being accessed? I've had
instances where bad sectors caused a crash.

Report back,

Harry

Can you post an exact copy of the Stop Error Report?

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on
the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure even after you have
solved the problem as it's better disabled. Check for variants of the
Stop Error message.

An alternative is to keep pressing the F8 key during Start-Up and select
option - Disable automatic restart on system failure.

Hope this helps.

First: it's BSOD, not "BOSD".

I've located the problem in the second hard disc. Thanks to everyone for
your help. I am particularly thankful to "Uncle Grumpy" for correcting the
spelling error in my heading.
