Some times the long pause on Intel boards is due to some failing
hardware such as a bad cd-rom drive or hard drive in the early stages
of failure. When the computer turns on it queries all devices and if
one is acting up this can slow the process. However the problem may
also be fixable with a bios upgrade. These can be downloaded from
intel.com.
my suggestions:
1. Set the BIOS defaults, then power up to see if the pause still
exists. If so go to the next step
2. Turn off the computer and unplug the cd-rom drive. Then power up to
see if the pause still exists. If so go to the next step
3. Download an updated BIOS from intel, then power up to see if the
pause still exists. If so go to the next step
4. Backup your data and then run the manufacturers hard drive test
against your hard drive. (e.g. hitachi fitness test
http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm)
If the drive fails you'll want to replace it immediately.
