With no floppy disc or CD forgot in the drives, this PC
boots to a simple one line error; "operating system not
found". My P3, 500 mgz 5 year old Gateway I have upgraded
with 2 hard drives, and a Ultra ATA 133 hard drive PCI
controller card, and a dual boot with Linux SuSe and
windows XP home. I have been getting a error during the
bootup that says; operating system not found, and the
Linux grub boot loader menu does not show either. Linux
is installed on one drive by itself, and XP is installed
on the other hard drive with 2 partitions, the C as main
system, and the D as just storage space. Can this be
caused by the CMOS battery failing so that the BIOS
settings are getting lost sometimes? This problem mainly
occurs when the computer is brought out of standby mode,
and then the hard drive lite is on steady also, so that I
must hit the reset button to do a reboot.
