This Vista Home Premium laptop runs great, but there's
one minor annoyance.

When it boots from a cold condition, it goes right to
the desktop with no logon, etc. That's what I want, as
no one uses this but me.

When I close the lid it quickly (3-5 seconds) goes to
Standby - that's just right. But when I open the lid,
there's a User icon (no password required) which must be
clicked to continue to the desktop.

Is there a way to get rid of that requirement? I want no
logon, passwords, etc. under any conditions.

THANKS!!

This is a perfect solution. I cycled the laptop three
times and it goes from standby to desktop much more
rapidly. Perhaps I'm kidding myself, but that's how it
seems.

THANKS!

I'm going to make an assumption that you haven't currently set a password
for your computer. If that is the case what you can try is:

1. Go into the power options applet (or type "power options" in the search
bar).
2. On the left side select "Require a password on wakeup".
3. Choose "Change settings that are currently unavailable".
4. You may have to accept the UAC prompt if it enabled.
5. At the bottom of the screen there are two radio button options. Select
"Don't require a password".
6: Choose the "Save Changes" button, and you should be set.

Hope this helps.
