Some time ago I bought and fitted a 250GB hard drive and loaded XPHome. I
allowed the software to set the partitions and addresses, these were C:, E:
and I: I also used my old 6GB HDU as a slave and this was identified as D:.
The XP system was loaded to the E: partition. This worked and is still
working fine, however, sometime later I noticed that at switch on and after
the initial bios information but before the loading of the XP system the
following message appears at the top of the screen.
Invalid BOOT.INI file. Booting from C:\windows\. The computer then loads XP
as normal but this, as have said is on the E: partition.
As everything seems work fine I have ignored this, however, I have had
problems in other areas and, in an effort to rectify these, I tried to
repair the booting problem by reloading the XP software repair programme but
that stops and the following message is displayed.
"Set up was unable to access you existing configuration file, C:\BOOT.INI,
this file is required during an upgrade and future restarts of this computer
will fail.
Please restart this computer into the Recovery Console, and choose the
option to Repair/Recover your boot and configuration files."
The Recovery Console also looks for the C:\BOOT.INI file and this too fails.
I have said there is no problem with the programme running XP although I do
have other seemingly unrelated problems but I would like to know if it is
possible, or necessary even, to rectify the booting dilemma.
